The new Model 862, 863, and 864 family of altimeters have been designed to fulfill customer's demands for inexpensive, versatile, rugged, high accuracy range detection at depth. The are all compact and simple to deploy and use, and all units contain advanced, low power digital electronics to process return data for bottom return range with a very reliable algorithm. All models are equipped for deployment at depth, using the proven Imagenex housing design, and all are available with 1000 m, 3000 m, and 6000 m depth ratings, for deployment almost anywhere in the ocean. The advanced electronics reduce power consumption below two watts, while maintaining full sampling speed (sample rates limited by the time for sound to reach the target and return).
The three models differ mainly in the form of the data output. The Model 862 outputs range as a standard analog voltage for ease of integration into automated and industrial applications. The Model 863 provides a simple, continuously updating digital output of range, and the Model 864 is the fully programmable model with a communications protocol similar to that of the other Imagenex digital sonar products.
Applications for the Imagenex Model 862, 863, and 864 include distance to bottom monitoring of ROV's and AUV's, scour monitors for engineering applications and coastal geology, and range sensors for automated underwater equipment such as vibra-core, dredging and log salvage. The 330 kHz acoustic beam can 'see' right through sediments stirred up by equipment movement and prop wash so that operations can continue even in zero visibility conditions. Wherever reliable distance measurement is needed, an Imagenex Model 862, 863 or 864 will do the job.
